QUESTION FOR THE WEEK

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU KNEW YOU COULD NEVER FAIL?

Think about how much fear leads our lives and then think about the amazing things people have accomplished because they never allowed failing as an option.

I love this picture. This picture says so much. The most important influence of having a black president is the self esteem of our young black men. Seeing Obama in office sends the message that we don't have to subscribe to the statistics - we can do whatever we want in life.

Only Fools Do The Same Thing Twice

Believe it or not, I know people who have never left The Bronx. I mean who have never been on a subway and gone to Brooklyn. Never been to Central Park! For over 40 years, these people have lived in the same neighborhood, worked in the same neighborhood, and never experienced anything different from what they did the day before. Can you imagine how limited your life would be if you only saw the same people every single day of your life? SMH at the thought of it. I think about when I went to China and how much that one trip influenced me to do and try different things. Or going to Cali.

Look In The Mirror

Steve Harvey wrote this book. I haven't read it, don't plan on reading it, but I caught a couple minutes of him on Oprah (I was channel surfing, LOL). So these two women had a long list of what they want in a man and wanted to get Steve's opinion on why they are still single. When I mean a long list, I'm talking like 100 or something qualities. Just a little ridiculous, don’t you think? Here’s my problem. Who’s going to want someone who is that uptight that they put together a long list of what they want in someone? I am all for lists.

Change For The Better

I'm switching it up, hitting the world brand new! No more wildness. I'm maturing. Letting the people see the new and improved Mickey. Getting rid of the trendy clothing. I'm coming through with a totally new look. I'm moving into "I planned what I’m wearing," not "I just woke up and put this on." If you see me in the streets, you'll know it’s me. And if you're a designer, and want to send clothes my way, hit me up!! Just make sure it's hot... just kidding…

Living The Dream

I mean, just because you lived in the hood and put words together doesn't mean that you're nice! I'm sorry, but the more people that post music that has no purpose on the net, the more I have to defend my work. I am in full support of living your dream but at some point, you have to realize that there is work and talent involved. As much as the Internet is the greatest tool to get your music out there, it’s also the main reason everybody and anybody thinks they can be an artist. Just because you lay rhymes over a track doesn’t make you a lyricist.

Integrity

Truthfully, I stand by this word in everything that I do. Say what you mean and do what you say. We all talk about what we believe in but it doesn’t always reflect in our day-to-day lives. For instance, if I can’t stand late people, I can’t turn around and be late myself (even though sometimes things happen!). Or if I can’t stand being talked about, I can’t sit around and gossip all day. But having integrity allows you to make mistakes. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being truthful. So if you make a mistake, admit, learn and move on.

Wide Open

There are some traditions that will never disappear, even if women continue to pretend they don’t matter.

Gentleman 2009

Lately, I've been thinking about the word Gentleman. The word makes me immediately think of Sam Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Cary Grant. I always want to be seen as a gentleman. You know, the smooth dude that everyone respects and looks up to. I don't only want to be seen as a gentleman but I want to be a gentleman. Feel me? First it is about being, then others will see you as you are.

According to Random House Dictionary,

Gentleman is: A civilized, educated, and well-mannered man.

But what does that mean in 2009?
